This duration of 48 minutes, i.e, 24 minutes before Ashtami tithi ends and 24 minutes after Navami tithi begins is considered to be the most auspicious and potent period of the Navratri. It is believed that the efficacy of chanting of mantras and prayers during these 48 minutes increases manifold. It was during this sandhi – kaal that Goddess Durga in the form of Chamunda slew the demons Chanda and Munda. After the victory, the goddess is in a beningn wish-granting mood and lovily grants the entreaties of those who pray to her.
